So, you are in need (or want) of a new car, aren't we all at some time or another? You know the one you want, you've given it a test drive, and it's divine. The engine purrs beneath you, powerful and yet subtle, it looks good and you look good in it.
The little voice inside your head, you know the one that told you if you learned guitar at fifteen you'd be famous and loaded by twenty five? Yes, that one. Well this car makes it very happy.
There's just one small problem, its sixty grand over budget. After all, we are in a recession, and promotions or rises are scarce to come by, so maybe you should settle for something slightly less sexy and slightly more affordable…or should you? Maybe there's a way to have your cake (or car) and eat it too.
Buying a used or second hand car is a great option autel, especially as there's currently such a huge market for it, most name brand car websites now support or endorse their own retailer of second hand cars with at least a sister site. I know it might not have the same gleam as walking into a brand new dealership and driving away in The Car, but you might not have to sacrifice quite as much as you thought. The team behind Jaguar have taken ‘Second hand' to a brand new level.
On the Jag website you can enter your postcode and up comes a list of available second hand cars for sale in your area, that have all been pre- approved by their team.
‘Approved' in this respect has new meaning too, these come with a full vehicle inspection, a Jaguar supported warranty and a 1,000 miles or 30 day exchange plan. Whereas before this was only expected of vintage or collectors cars, they've brought the whole idea of ‘second hand' up to date, and do all the work for you.
Long gone are the days of trawling through newspapers to find a hidden gem, getting up early on the one day a week you deserve a lie in, and visiting vintage car shows, now it's just a click away. That age old taboo of being tricked into buying an old banger has been mercilessly replaced with a slick alternative.
The best part, of course, is that you're getting the car you want, less than 5 years old in reassuringly good quality Autel MaxiSys MS906BT, for a whole lot less. Take the beautiful 2005, XK8, 4.2 V8 advertised, (the one my little voice goes a bit soft for) it's done just over 40,000 miles and is less than twenty grand. That little voice in the back of your head just punched the air and said ‘Yes!' in a gleeful tone didn't it?
Plus with that exchange plan if you find it doesn't quite purr the right way for you, then what's to stop you trying out another model?
Without a doubt, a used Jaguar just became sexy again.
